Latif Eshraq
Artist
Latif Eshraq, hailing from Jaghoori, Ghazni, began his artistic journey in the 1960s amidst Afghanistan's evolving educational landscape. When formal schooling became inaccessible after the revolution, Eshraq found solace in art, nurturing a lifelong passion for painting. His journey led him to Iran, where he was inspired by a thriving artistic community, and later to Kuwait, where he honed his craft over a decade. Post-2001, Eshraq returned to Afghanistan to teach art, aiming to instill in others the cultural and literary depth he sought in his youth.
Eshraq's art, characterized by a unique blend of realism and cubism, often features vibrant red hues and dragons, capturing the essence of Hazaragi culture. His works are deeply influenced by local narratives and Jawad Khawari's literary themes. After fleeing Afghanistan in 2021 due to political upheaval, Eshraq resettled in France, where he continues to paint, sharing his rich experiences and cultural reflections. His journey from a small Afghan village to the international art scene exemplifies the transformative power of art and its ability to transcend boundaries, fostering global understanding and appreciation.
